As a job seeker, it can feel overwhelming to find the right positions to apply for. Many unconsciously limit their search by focusing on specific job titles or industries. In this guide, you will learn a method that helps you find more relevant job postings in less time – without missing good opportunities.
Why this method works
Many job seekers go to a job portal and search for a specific job title. The problem is that you only see a small part of the market this way.
The same position can have widely different titles in different companies. And your skills can often be used in positions you haven't even considered.
This method solves both problems by:
- Showing you all new postings in your area
- Letting you decide what is relevant – not a search algorithm
- Inspiring you to consider job types you might not have thought of
Time investment
You should expect to spend about 10-20 minutes, 2-3 times a week.
This may sound like a lot, but the payoff is significant. You stay constantly updated with the latest job postings and ensure that no relevant opportunity slips by.
How to do it: Step by step
Step 1: Go to Jobindex.dk
Jobindex is Denmark's largest job database with the most listed positions gathered in one place. That's why we use Jobindex for this method.
Go to jobindex.dk.
Step 2: Use only filters – not job titles
The important thing here is that you do not search for a specific job title or industry. You want to see everything.
Therefore, click directly on "Filters" without typing anything in the search field.
Step 3: Choose your geographic area
Under the location filter:
- Enter how far you are willing to commute to work
- Enter your home address
- Or select an entire region (e.g., North Jutland, Central Jutland, Zealand)
Be realistic, but also consider remote work. Many jobs now offer hybrid or full-time remote work, which can open up opportunities outside your local area.
Step 4: Choose posting date
Find the heading "Posting date" in the filter overview.
Select "Last 7 days". This ensures that you only see new postings – not positions that have been listed for months.
Click on "Search".
Step 5: Review the list efficiently
Now all new job postings in your geographic area are displayed. There may be many – perhaps several hundred.
The secret is that you do not need to read them all thoroughly. You should skim quickly:
- Read the title of the job posting
- If the title is not interesting → move on to the next one
- If the title catches your interest → read the summary text
- If both are interesting → save the job posting for later
Important: Do NOT open the job posting and read the details now. You should just save the posting. Otherwise, you will have a hard time getting through the entire list.
How to save job postings
There are two ways to save job postings:
Method 1: Copy link
- Click on the 3 dots in the corner of the listing
- Click on "Copy link"
- Paste the link into a document (Word, Google Docs, Notes)
Method 2: Jobindex's save function (recommended)
- Click on "Save" next to the heart icon
- Requires a free profile on Jobindex
Benefits of a Jobindex profile:
- Save job postings easily
- Save searches for later use
- Have a CV on Jobindex that is searchable by companies
Review your saved job postings
When you have reviewed the entire list and saved the interesting postings, go to "Saved jobs" on the front page.
For each saved job posting, you should now decide:
- Should it be applied for as soon as possible? (set a date in the calendar)
- Should it be applied for during the week? (prioritize by application deadline)
- Should it not be applied for at all? (delete from the list)
What is a "relevant" job posting?
Only you can determine that. But here are some questions you can ask yourself:
- Does the job match something that motivates me?
- Can I use my professional skills here?
- Is the distance to the job acceptable?
- Could I see myself in this role?
With this method, you will be exposed to many job postings you would not normally have found. That is the whole point – you broaden your perspective.
Repeat the process regularly
The key to success is to repeat the process 2-3 times a week. This way:
- You are always updated with the latest postings
- You see positions before others have a chance to apply
- You are constantly inspired to consider new job types
Set time aside in your calendar. For example, Monday, Wednesday, and Friday morning for 15 minutes.
Extra tip: Use the map view
Jobindex has a map function that is particularly useful if you want to find a job close to your home:
- Find the "Map view" button above the list
- See all job postings placed geographically on the map
- Zoom in and out to see the companies' exact locations
This gives you a visual overview of where the opportunities are in your area.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Searching too narrowly: Don't use job titles – you will miss opportunities
- Reading everything too thoroughly: Skim titles, save for later, read afterwards
- Only doing it once: Repeat 2-3 times a week
- Rejecting jobs in advance: Save everything that seems even remotely interesting
- Forgetting to follow up: Set application deadlines in your calendar
Practical tips for the method
- Set aside 15 minutes in your calendar 2-3 times a week
- Use Jobindex's save function to keep track of postings
- Be open to job types you haven't tried before
- Combine with unsolicited applications to companies you find interesting
- Share interesting finds with your network – maybe they know someone
- Use the map view to find jobs nearby
- Apply as quickly as possible for new postings – before the competition
Try it yourself
- Go to jobindex.dk
- Click on "Filters" – NOT on search
- Choose your geographic area
- Select "Last 7 days" under posting date
- Spend 10-15 minutes skimming and saving interesting postings
- Review your saved jobs and prioritize them
FAQ
What if there are too many listings to review?
Start by narrowing down the geographic area, or reduce to "Last 3 days" instead of 7. With practice, you will get faster at skimming.
Should I really save jobs I'm not 100% qualified for?
Yes! Job postings are wish lists. Companies know that the perfect candidate rarely exists. Apply if you match 60-70%.
Does this method work on other job portals?
Yes, the principle is the same. But Jobindex has the most listings in Denmark, so start there.
